Trashed-The Evidence of The Effort
In honor of Earth Day, here is a photo of the recycling spot on our street. Yes, our neighborhood is trashed! Yes, to accumulate this many bottles, some of the neighbors must have been trashed too!
It was shocking to see the recycling bins overflowing for so many days, but it also makes me smile. This photo represents where we are today in relation to environmental issues; awareness and good intentions! The demand for recycling obviously exceeds capacity at the moment and I believe programs will expand exponentially to meet the market demand!
Along with a group of my Business Students, I visited the largest factory of recycled plastic products in all of Europe yesterday and saw the innovative products they are making. While remarkable, the complexity and limitations of using recycled household plastics reinforced my belief that Reduce is the R that will soon come to the forefront and make the biggest environmental impact!
Will the willingness to recycle carry over into a desire among consumers to reduce waste? Perhaps the new economic climate and corporate cost cutting will drive some of the wasteful and environmentally unfriendly packaging out of our household products? Let’s hope big innovations in waste reduction are just around the corner…

There once was a women named CeeCee, who worked for five years building her business, largely by word of mouth, one satisfied client at a time. She had the location of her dreams and was doing work that she was passionate about. One day, a loyal client offered CeeCee a great opportunity to speak to a group that was an exact match with her target group. CeeCee was flattered and immediately recognized the potential.
As the day for the event grew near, I asked CeeCee, “are you ready and are you excited?” The barrage of excuses that followed was unexpected. CeeCee explained how busy she was, how bad the timing was, how exhausted she would be, etc. She had canceled the event with short notice and when I looked at this otherwise strong and confident women, I saw only fear. Not in her eyes, because she didn’t look at me as she rattled off her excuses, but it was all over her face and in her voice. This was not fear of failure; it was fear of success!! Of all the obligations she mentioned, this speaking engagement was the only one that had the possibility to change her life, or at least, leap her business forward.
What excuses do you make for walking away from your shot at success? Take a look at this video and you might see that your fear of success is a luxury problem?

Easter Egg Hunt canceled due to unforeseen circumstances! Surprisingly, the condition of the eggs was not discovered the previous evening while being handled by the master craftsman pictured below. There will be no deviled eggs, egg salad sandwiches, etc. on the menu in our house this time around! The Eurocave hiding spot was not at all appreciated and would never have been considered by the Easter Bunny, had she known! Does little Anais look disappointed to discover a Little Tykes Bulldozer instead of eggs on the lawn? Maybe just a little! Happy Hunting…
Cake Walk
Are you invisible? Do you believe you’re putting yourself out there, but people just walk on by without noticing you, your product or your advertising?
Try this…place some freshly baked, brightly decorated cupcakes in your window; wait and watch. Unless your business is, in fact, a bakery; heads will turn. We happened to try this experiment at our office by accident, but when these innocent cupcakes attracted a lot of attention from everyone walking by, we realized we were missing out on an opportunity. Window displays= Retail 101! Even though we are not a retail business, we all have our ideas to sell and our organizations to brand!
So many people walk through their daily routines with their heads down and buds in their ears, trying to take control of their environment and block out the sights and sounds of life. Too bad! They might as well be wearing a Do Not Disturb sign. What can you do to get their attention? Continue reading »
