The Olympics Prompt an Amendment to China’s Strict One Child Policy
Following the Sichuan Earthquake in May that killed over 69,000 people, an exemption to China’s strict one child policy was made for parents who lost their child in the earthquake. Now it appears likely the one child policy will be waived again in special circumstances for parents with daughters deemed to be unattractive by Chinese government officials. Of course the waiver would only be granted if both parents are determined by officials to meet high attractiveness standards themselves of greater than 7 on a scale of 10, thus proving that the parents have the potential to produce an attractive child. If either parent scores below a 7, the waiver will only be granted if the mother is a perfect 10. Sound ridiculous? Of course it does, but the Olympics are shedding an ugly light on China’s image obsession. Some aspects of China’s Extreme Makeover leading up to the Olympics were shocking enough, including the”obedience training” conducted weekly over the past three years to improve the “civility index” score, the Handbook went beyond manners and spitting and advised any female with thick legs to wear dark stockings to hide her defect!
China hit a new low this week when the lip-synching scandal broke, revealing that the girl who stole the show in the opening ceremony was a last minute stand. Yang Peiyi, the 7- year old with the beutiful voice was hidden away back stage at the last minute at the insistence of high Government officials for “the National Interest”. You could wonder why the last minute change, how could they have even considered letting Yang Peiyi appear on stage, if she wasn’t so darn cute herself!
