Our office is closed this week, so my colleague and I took our children to Duinrell attraction park yesterday. Our babysitter came along, specifically to see Sittah’s magic show that has been heavily advertised. As we stood in line outside the theater in the heat with all the other parents and little kids surrounded by Sittah posters, I couldn’t help but remark how great it was to see this glamorous strong woman as the Headliner. She was the Illusionist, not just the stereotypical sidekick, pretty assistant. We’ve come a long way baby!
But wait, not so fast. As the curtain opened and the show began, I looked around the theater, crowded with parents and kids sitting on low benches, to see if I was the only one surprised that there was more dancing than magic, and not just any dancing. The bumping, grinding, thrusting and panting gave way to a tango about half way through with sex bomb as one of the final dance numbers. There were two trashy pairs of dancers/assistants in the act. The origin of the act appears to have been in a strip club, when one exotic dancer must have suggested adding a few magic tricks to spice up her routine and a few of the others joined in as well.
The costumes only made it worse as the diamante bras from the opening act were replaced by tacky red negligees for the tango sequence. Sexy would have been surprising for this family venue, but sexy and cheap made it truly fit for “Duinrell after Dark”. (All of the show times are in the afternoon.)
I was shocked to discover online that Sittah was crowned the World Champion Illusionist in Stockholm last fall and will reign for 3 years. Could the World Champion Illusionist dominate in this male-dominated profession without playing the role of a dominatrix?

Sittah needs to get herself a new illusion… I’m still shocked that this show is meant for kids.
One of the biggest acts in the US is the Pussycat Dolls. Little girls love them but little do parents know that they are just some well paid strippers.
